Self Portrait #02
acrylic, yarn, zipper on canvas
18" x 24"
2024
Drawing from the works of Mexican artist Hugo Aguilar, primary, simple shapes emerge from Self Portrait #02 to create a complex whole. It was created using acrylic paint applied in layers; a zipper for the nose and yarn for the hair give the piece dimensionality and form as well as a sense of whimsey. Bright pinks, greens, and yellows contrast deep dark blues, highlighting the duality of human existence. Bright, happy thoughts, memories, and moments coexist with dark, sad, or terrible ones.
Self Portrait #2 represents my own bright and colorful inner world, as well as the darks of depression. The bright colors add a sense of energy and excitement, while the downturned mouth speaks to the weight we all carry withing ourselves. These together coexist to create an entire person. I invite the viewer to reflect on their own inner world, and dualities that may exist within their own selves.

Experimental Stop Motion
paper collage, digital photography
2024
The goal of Experimental Stop Motion was to explore form through a non-linear narrative. Creating a non-linear narrative proved to be the main focus of this film, via an exploration of form, rather than the other way around. This silent film embraces play and delight.

Lightning Bugs
Digital print with imitation gold leaf
11" x 14"
2024
Lighting Bugs recalls a warm summer's night with a jar of lighting bugs on the windowsill, the night's activity having been to catch them. Viewers will notice the light reflect off the gilding on the insect's abdomens and the label of the jar, evoking the light of the fireflies.
This piece is intended to put a smile on the viewer's face and inspire warm nostalgia in their heart.

Patterns
gel pen on paper
20" x 27"
2024
Patterns was created by drawing each line by hand, as close to the previous line as possible without actually touching it. Due to the human propensity for error, variations appeared in the lines. This was repeated until the paper was full and organic, unplannable patterns started to emerge.
